Rosie MacKenzie & Dominique Dodge

Rosie MacKenzie and Dominique Dodge are traditional musicians of depth and character, as well as childhood friends, reunited. The expressive warmth of Rosie’s fiddling meets the percussive resonance of Dominique’s harp in away lifts the tunes and carries them along in a stream of buoyant energy. Cape Breton is the source of their music, but both have lived inIreland and share a love of that tradition as well. Strong singers each in their own right, their voices are well-seasoned, well-matched, and prone to both carefully woven harmony and full-bodied unison in Gaelic and English. Their sound is dynamic, responsive, and full of mischief and delight.

Dominique Dodge is a harper and singer who grew up in the White Mountains and now divides her time between New Hampshire and Cape Breton. She has a passion for melody-driven dance music and responsive, rhythmic accompaniment. A former Fulbright Scholar and a 2012 graduate of the University of Limerick with an MA in Irish Music Performance, Dominique also holds a BA Honours in Scottish Music from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in Glasgow. Dominique is a dedicated learner ofScottish Gaelic, a profound influence on her music which continues to shape her sense of rhythm and phrasing. Her new album, “Cànan nan Teud” (The Language of the Strings) features Gaelic songs from Cape Breton and explores the relationship between Puirt-a-Beul (mouth music) and traditional dance tunes.

Rosie MacKenzie is a Cape Breton fiddler and singer who has been a professional musician for over fifteen years. At age 11, she was an original member of The Cottars. The group recorded three full-length albums under Rounder Records, toured internationally, and shared the stage with The Chieftains, Elvis Costello, and Natalie MacMaster. They won two East Coast Music Awards and performed at Carnegie Hall to a sold-out audience. Rosie’s first solo album, The MacKenzie Project, was released in 2010. Her newest album, Atlantic, came out in 2016. This collection of original songs and compositions won Instrumental Recording of the Year at the East Coast Music Awards 2018. Recently, Rosie has recorded and performed with Oscar and Grammy winner Glen Hansard and Brendan Begley, including performances at New York’s Town Hall and for the President of Ireland. She continues to tour with many well-known artists giving sold out performances and appearing at major North American music festivals.
